Coaching Programmes
Our coaching programmes are run by head coach Jay Hunting, with Mark Magrath and Cliff Graham.
We are passionate about offering excellent quality and affordable programmes that encourage participation of players whatever their age or ability. Our sessions are energetic and fun and allow players to reach their maximum potential.
Royal Ascot runs very active mini and juniors tennis programmes for children between the ages of 5-16 that caters for complete beginners, through to experienced tournament players. They’ll progress through 3 levels each in red, orange and green ball before making the step up to yellow ball. Our expert and experienced coaches can also advise on external competition for more advanced players.
Mini Tennis - Under 11 Years
- Mini Tennis is great for young players gaining confidence and making new friends.
- The emphasis is on fun within a friendly and supportive environment.
- Group eye co-ordination drills.
- Sessions include fun games to teach basic strokes and new skills.
- Mini Tennis Members receive discount rates on our Summer Camps.

Juniors - 10-16 Years
- Pair kids of similar ability for coach led sessions.
- Games and point based scenarios, with tactical strategy for competitive development.
- Internal tournaments, pairing similar skilled kids for coach-led competitive match play.
- We strive to produce players who have the potential to play league tennis, while emphasis is always put on improvement not on winning.
- Junior Tennis Members receive discount rates on our Summer Camps.

Adult Sessions
- Rusty Rackets: Saturdays 9.00am-10.30am, and 10.30am-12 noon, and 12 noon-1.30pm and Tuesdays 11.00am-12.30pm.
For anyone returning to play after a long break, taking up tennis for the first time or those who simply wish to brush up their game. Rusty Rackets are fun group sessions teaching all areas of tennis via drills and game based learning to improve ground strokes, volleys, smashing and serving techniques. Players gain proficiency and consistency as well as tactical knowledge. Non-members may attend six sessions to check tennis is for them before joining the club.These sessions are very popular and are run on a pre-booked basis. Our Coaches
Mark Magrath
Mark is a former ATP player, a LTA Level 5 Master Coach and LTA tutor with experience of over 15 years. He is a Senior Coach at The All England Lawn Tennis Club (Wimbledon) and is one of the 5 elite coaches chosen by the LTA to tutor and train over 2000 coaches in the Davis Cup legacy ‘Tennis For Kids’ scheme. Jay Hunting
Jay is an LTA Performance Coach with a proven track record of player success. Jay joins us having previously held positions as head coach of both the Amida club in Hampton and the RBC racquets club in Berkshire. He's coached players to county/regional and national titles. Cliff Graham
Cliff is a fully qualified LTA accredited plus coach and he has been an active member of the Club for over 30 years. As well as being a former winner of our Men’s Singles, he competed in the 1994 World Long Distance Triathlon Championships. He is also a Level 3 Exercise Referral Instructor and a Level 4 Personal Trainer. He is available for both group and individual tennis lessons and he can be contacted on Tel: 07388 047607.
